Nathalie Gribinski | TourliStory

Biography

Nathalie Gribinski (b. 1963 in Algiers, Algeria) is a French-American artist living in Chicago, USA. After winning a law degree in Paris, moving to Chicago in 1992, she earned a B.A. in Art at Columbia College. Her fine-art has evolved in lock-step with her graphic art.

Ms. Gribinski’s artistry was shaped in the heart of Paris - particularly Montparnasse, the faubourg which was nascent to the new artistic expression of the 1920s; les Années Folles (the Crazy Years).

Her formative years were spent vacationing in Provence and Avignon, amongst those searching for wonder in the heat of lavender fields and ancient castles, turning scenes from the past into her signature  “Tourlicoulis world”. The artistic tension of these uniquely stylized creations – inspirations from the “old” South of France and hyper-modern abstract forms– gives her body of work an active shard of Van Gogh. Other influences evoke Miró, Kandinsky, Klee, Bacon, and Picasso.
